Understanding Club Face Angle

Video tutorial on understanding club face angle analysis to improve your golf game using Trackman software.

How TrackMan Technology Can Improve Your Golf Game

Overview

This content is a promotional and instructional message from Craig at Private Fairway, aimed at amateur golfers. Craig discusses how using professional technology like TrackMan can help amateurs analyze and improve their golf swings, specifically addressing common shot issues such as fades and slices.

Key Points

  • Introduction to TrackMan at Private Fairway

    • Craig, an amateur golfer, wanted access to the same technology professionals use.

    • Private Fairway offers TrackMan—the same system used by pros on tour—to help amateurs improve.

  • Common Amateur Problem: Shots Going Right

    • Many golfers struggle with shots fading or slicing right, causing frustration.

    • Craig uses his own example: out of six shots tracked, only one went significantly right.

  • How TrackMan Diagnoses Swing Issues

    • TrackMan provides detailed data on each shot, including club path and face angle.

    • Example: One shot had a club path of 2.4° inside-to-out (blue line on video), but the club face was open by 7°, leading to a face-to-path of 4.5° open.

      • Result: The ball landed 34 feet right of the center line, missing the green.

    • By contrast, a better shot had a club path of 1.2° inside-to-out and a slightly closed face, landing just 1 inch left of the center line—ideal placement.

  • Benefits of Using TrackMan

    • Provides clear, actionable data rather than guesswork at the driving range.

    • Helps golfers understand the relationship between club path, face angle, and shot outcome.

    • Enables targeted practice for greater consistency and accuracy.

  • Call to Action

    • Craig encourages viewers to subscribe for more instructional videos.

    • Invites golfers to visit Private Fairway to try TrackMan and improve their game.

Hi, this is Craig with Private Fairway, and I'm an amateur golfer just like you. And I asked myself the question, what if I could have the same technology the pros have? So at Private Fairway, we have TrackMan, just like all the pros use week-to-week on tour.

And we're helping amateur golfers like me and like you get better. If you have a problem where your shot looks like this, it ends up out on the right, a little bit of a fade or maybe a slice if that's your miss, but it happens consistently enough that it drives you crazy.

I want to tell you about how using a tool like TrackMan here at Private Fairway can help you become more consistent and understand what's going on in your golf swing so that you can prevent it. So let me just show you here a little bit.

I get a number of shots here, six shots actually, on the TrackMan here at Private Fairway. Here you can see these are my shots, and generally speaking, they're not too bad. All but really one of them is, I think we would be happy with, that one that's out to the right.

And the big issue is, it really comes down to the face angle relative to your club path. So if I put this video up here, what using a TrackMan can do is help you really understand that. What you see here is, on this shot, my club path was 2. 4 degrees inside to out, that club path number there.

And that's represented by the blue line on the video there. But my face angle was open 7 degrees, so I just left that face open as I came through impact. And as a result, my face to path was open 4. 5 degrees, or a little bit more than 4. 5 degrees.

And that resulted in that push out to the right, and as a result, I'm 34 feet off the center line.

So, with a pitching wedge, you're usually typically into the green, so this is now on the right side bunker, or just off the green on the right, rather than being on the green, like this shot for example, where my club path is inside out 1.

2 degrees, and my club path, my face angle is just a tiny bit closed, and as a result, I land 1 inch to the left of the center line. So that's just right close, middle of the green, right where I'm aiming.

So those are some of the things you can work on when you use a TrackMan system, is you can understand what's going on, you're no longer just wondering what's going on as you pound balls at the driving range.
