Using the TrackMan App for Virtual Golf Data Analysis
Overview
This instructional guide explains how to use the TrackMan app on your mobile device to view golf shot data normalized for Utah altitude, regardless of the virtual golf course being played. The process covers app setup, connecting as a viewer, navigating data views, and understanding normalized data outputs.
Learn to access and interpret normalized golf shot data (adjusted for Utah altitude) using the TrackMan app during virtual golf sessions.
Key Steps & Concepts
App Installation and Setup
Download the TrackMan app from the App Store onto your phone or iPad.
Connect the device to the private fairway Wi-Fi network for proper functionality.
Connecting to TrackMan
Open the TrackMan app.
Tap the player icon and select "Shot Analysis."
When prompted, choose to connect as a viewer (not as a controller) to avoid disrupting ongoing sessions.
Viewing Data
After connecting, you can see various data displays:
Use the three-dot menu to select display preferences (e.g., dispersion pattern, 3D trajectory, or tile view).
The tile view allows swiping through different data tiles for easy access.
Normalized Data for Utah Altitude
Shot data will be displayed as if played at Utah's altitude, regardless of the actual virtual course.
Example: A shot may show a carry distance of 199 yards on the virtual course, but the normalized Utah carry distance would be 174 yards.
Additional Features
The app allows AirPlay to mirror your device’s display to a TV for group viewing.
Important Concepts
Normalized Data: Adjusts shot metrics to a standard altitude (Utah, in this case) for consistent comparison.
Viewer Mode: Enables users to observe real-time shot data without interfering with the main TrackMan session.
Data Visualization: Multiple options (tiles, 3D trajectory, dispersion) help analyze performance in different ways.
Examples/Applications
Practical Use: While practicing or playing virtual golf, monitor your shot data as it would perform at Utah altitude.
Group Analysis: AirPlay enables collaborative review by displaying data on a larger screen.
Key Takeaways
The TrackMan app provides real-time, normalized golf shot data for Utah altitude.
Connecting as a viewer ensures you can see data without controlling the session.
Multiple data visualization options enhance the analysis experience.
AirPlay integration supports group learning and feedback.

Okay, I'm going to show you a cool trick that when you're playing virtual golf, you can use to get your data and it'll give you the data, the normalized data for the Utah altitude regardless of what course you're playing. You can use the TrackMan app on your phone or on your iPad. So here I have it on my iPad.
So if you just download this TrackMan app from the app store, and then make sure you're connected to the private fairway Wi-Fi, and you'll click it like this and it'll open up.
And then if you click this little player guy right here, up here, this arrow, if I click shot analysis, now it's going to want to connect to the TrackMan. So you'll see here it's saying that it's in use. So you don't want to take control of it. You just want to connect as a viewer.
And so what's going to happen is you'll connect as a viewer and you'll connect as a viewer and then you'll get to see the data and you can do different views. So you can see kind of like the software. If you click these little three buttons, you can choose like what you want to see.
Like if you want to see the dispersion pattern or if you want to see like 3D trajectory, it'll actually show you like the driving range. Or you can just do tiles, which is kind of what I like to do.
So here if I click this little thing and I put it here, now I have all of the tiles and we can swipe over and close that down. So now when we hit a shot, you'll get the normalized data for Utah. And so you can kind of look at your data while you're playing virtual golf. So there you go.
You see you get the club speed, ball speed, all the data that you want. And if you want, you can also airplay your phone to the TV, either to one of the TVs and then you can put it up on the TV too. So if you want to look at that.
But it's kind of a good way to see that data while you're playing virtual golf and kind of working on it. And you can see the difference in the altitude between Utah and so like on this shot it was 199 carry, but in Utah it was like 174 in this virtual golf.
