How To Hard Reset the TrackMan

How to Hard Restart and Recalibrate the TrackMan

Overview

This material is a step-by-step instructional guide (from a video transcript) on how to perform a hard restart and recalibration of the TrackMan device, particularly in response to connectivity issues with new software updates.

Main Idea

Objective:Learn how to hard restart the TrackMan device and recalibrate it to resolve connection problems caused by recent software updates.

Key Steps and Concepts

1. Hard Restarting the TrackMan

  • Reason: New software may cause unreliable connections to the TrackMan.

  • Solution: Perform a hard restart (power cycle) of the device.

  • Steps:

    • Pick up the TrackMan device.

    • Locate the small foot on the back of the device.

    • Push the foot down until it clicks; fold it up so the feet retract.

    • Wait for the indicator light to turn off (device is now powered down).

    • To power back on, push the little foot down again; the feet will come out.

    • Set the device back in its original position, ensuring it is not resting on wires or the power adapter.

2. Recalibrating the TrackMan

  • Why: Moving or restarting the device requires recalibration for accurate operation.

  • Steps:

    • On the connected screen, press the TrackMan logo.

    • Wait for the device to reconnect (light should go solid).

    • Press the "Auto Target" button.

    • The projector will display a grid and countdown, completing the recalibration.

3. Addressing Software Update Warnings

  • Issue: Warning messages may appear indicating a game or software is not up to date.

  • Explanation: Multiple versions of software may be installed, but this typically does not affect operation.

  • Action: Simply cancel out of the warning message to proceed.

4. Quick Connection Check

  • After rebooting, click the TrackMan logo to check connection status.

  • If the connection screen appears, the device is connected.

  • Always recalibrate after moving or restarting the device.

Important Points

  • You do not need to unplug the device to restart it.

  • Always recalibrate after a hard restart or if the device has been moved.

  • Ignore or cancel update warnings if they appear.

  • The process should take less than two minutes.

Key Takeaways

  • A hard restart (power cycling) resolves most connectivity issues with the TrackMan under new software.

  • Recalibration is essential after every restart or movement for accurate performance.

  • Software update warnings are generally not critical and can be dismissed.

Review Questions

  • What are the steps to hard restart the TrackMan?

  • Why is recalibration necessary after restarting or moving the device?

  • How should you handle software update warning messages?

This summary provides a practical reference for troubleshooting and maintaining the TrackMan device in the context of recent software changes.

Hey, this is Craig at Private Fairway, and uh, in this little quick video I'm going to show you how to hard restart the TrackMan. So, in the new software we're having a little trouble where it's not connecting to the TrackMan as reliably as it used to.

I'm hoping they'll fix that, but in the meantime an easy fix that will guarantee it is to restart the TrackMan by powering it off and powering it back on. So, I'm going to show you how to do this. That's why we have this little weird angle.

So, what's going to happen is all you're going to do is you're going to pick up the TrackMan like this, and you'll see on the back you don't need to unplug it or anything, just bring it out. Don't pull it too far out. On the back there's this little foot.

If you push the little foot down it will click, and then you're going to fold it up like that, and the little feet will come in. Then what you're going to do is you're just going to wait for this light here to turn off or flash, or it usually turns off. So, we're just going to let it turn off. There we go.

Now, when it's turned off the TrackMan's totally powered down. Now, to repower it we're just going to click the little foot back down. The little feet will come out, and then we're just going to set, set it back in where it was. Just make sure that it doesn't set down on the wires or on the power adapter.

You just going to set it back in there, and then it should just be put back in the way it was before. Now, when you do that, because you've moved it, you're going to want to make sure that you recalibrate it.

And the best way to recalibrate it, and I'm just going to—this is kind of quick and dirty video—but the best way to recalibrate it is just to come over to the screen here and press this logo right here, and it will come up like that connecting.

It's going to look for it, and it's going to take a minute because as long as the light is flashing it's still repowering. So, once the light goes solid then it should come over here and it should find it. We'll try it again. Oh my gosh. Okay, hold on.

Click the TrackMan button, then you're going to get this once it's powered back up, and then you're just going to want to click this Auto Target button right here. It'll put the grid up on the projector and countdown, and then it should re-calibrate the TrackMan. So, that's what we're going to do.

Um, the other thing that's happening as long as this is up here is we're getting this little warning, and I think what's just so you know what's happening is they're updating, they're pushing updates to the software to fix some of these glitches, and there's other pieces of software and they're pushing new versions of the other pieces like the games and those things.

And this is just saying that one of the games is not up to date. In reality, there's actually two copies of this software already installed. One's the new one, one's the old one, and so they're not clearing out the old one. But all you really need to do is click just, just cancel out of it, and you should be fine.

So, quick little thing if you want to connect to the TrackMan, remember just click the TrackMan logo right here. It'll connect as long as you get this screen, then, uh, that means the TrackMan's connected.

We click the Auto Target button like this, and it'll put that grid on the screen, calibrate, then you're all done. So, if you reboot it, move it a little bit, you want to make sure you recalibrate it, and that should get you back up and running in less than two minutes
